Swine Flu Vaccine To Arrive Next Week

Health officials in Indiana and Tennessee administered the first round of swine flu vaccinations in America as Pittsburgh geared up Monday to receive its first shipments.

The shipments of the H1N1 vaccine are expected to reach Pittsburgh by the middle of next week.

Statewide, children between the ages of five and nine will be the first to receive the vaccine in the form of a nasal mist.

“It’s very likely that someone in their family is going to be infected,” said Dr. Mike Green, of Children’s Hospital, “but as I just mentioned, the vast majority of people who get infected are going to be fine."

According to state health department officials, parents should check with their health care providers about the availability of the vaccine. Those without pediatric care should contact the health department.
