Nemacolin Woodlands May Take Gamble On Opening Casino

Nemacolin Woodlands Resort and Spa is ready to take a chance once again on building a casino.

Organizers made big plans for what would be the third slots parlor in the region.

In 2006, officials said the resort did not build a casino in Farmington, Fayette County mainly due to a state requirement that resort customers would have to make a $25 payment each time they visited the casino to gamble.

The fee has since been lowered to $10 and a Nemacolin spokesman said the idea has become more attractive with the addition of table games in Pennsylvania.

“Our feeling is that it will move relatively quickly,” said Jeff Nobers. “They certainly want to get these casinos up and running.”

The resort’s earlier application called for a $40 million casino that would include 500 slot machines and would now allow at least 25 table games.

No word yet on when the resort might build the casino because it would require the approval of the legislature and state gaming board.
