Shotgun Discharges In Car, Injures 2 In Brownsville

Pennsylvania state police said two people were hurt when a shotgun discharged in their vehicle in Fayette County early Tuesday morning.

According to the police report, Randy Painter, 21, and Patricia Christner, 19, were in a vehicle along Fifth Avenue when "something occurred that caused the shotgun to discharge."

Medics used a helicopter to transport the victims to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh.

Painter suffered a moderate injury to his right arm while Christner fractured her hip.

According to Heather Fisher, Christner's sister, she is in critical but stable condition. Fisher said her sister's spine might have been grazed also.

“She’s a sweet girl,” said Fisher. “She could have permanent spine damage.”

Authorities continue to investigate, but are currently labeling the incident an accident.
