PITTSBURGH -- Eighth-grade students at Avonworth Middle School are hoping their viral video will help protect their peers from the H1N1 virus. The video, designed to educate students on the most preventative technique, hand washing, is titled "H1N1 Prevention Mission Possible." The camera follows a student who doesn't wash his hands. The student is later confronted by members of the “Mission Possible Team.”"When students hear a message from their peers, it is a very powerful tool," said Superintendent Dr. Valerie McDonald. "This particular group of students was able to create a message based on an issue that could potentially continue to hurt more individuals. No matter how many times an adult tells kids to wash their hands, when the same message comes from their peers, it takes on a more commanding meaning."The eighth-grade class wanted to share the message beyond Avonworth and Pittsburgh and target areas where students live -- cyber space. The "H1N1 Prevention Mission Possible" was uploaded to YouTube and other social media sites. The students responsible for the video are Ericka Thomas, Richard Kastory, Breanna Lipchak, Logan Mrozenkis, Alexis Monroa, Bryce Volk, Jessica Keast, Erika Nosal, Ashley Abernethy, Ravneet Singh, Hannah Logan, Gina Lucia and Nathan Rothert. The students used iMovie and Final Cut Express.
