A Greensburg man has been charged with negligence in the death of his bedridden 53-year-old mother, and will stand trial.

According to police, Victor McCurdy, 22, failed to help his mother, who was badly burned and bedridden for five days last year. Police said that through his negligence, the woman died. He is also charged with involuntary manslaughter.

Police said the woman had been burned in a fire that happened as a result of her smoking in bed. They said an oxygen tank caught fire.

Police said the woman, who suffered from multiple sclerosis, died on Dec. 26. They said she was laying her own filth and had bed sores and was dehydrated. Police said it took five days for McCurdy to finally take his mother to the hospital, where she later died.

Authorities said the woman weighed only 70 pounds at the time of her death.
