Castle Shannon Crime Fighting Goes High-Tech

Crime fighting is going high-tech in a local community with the launching of an online system.

The Castle Shannon Police Department launched an online crime alerting and mapping service with crimereports.com on Tuesday.

“CrimeReports.com will prove particularly valuable to residents in the community who want to stay informed about what is going on in their neighborhoods, and empower citizens to work with the Police Department to address neighborhood crime issues,” said Chief Kenneth Truver.

The service provides easy-to-read incident crime maps and automated alerts to citizens of Castle Shannon on the Police Department’s Web site.

The site will give members of the neighborhood crime data in nearly real time.

CrimeReports is a free service to the public and allows residents to receive automatic daily, weekly or monthly alerts about criminal activity near their home, office and local schools.

Residents can also view reported crime activity on an easy-to-use map for any location within the Castle Shannon Police Department boundaries, including incident type, date, location, distance from any address, event identification number and a brief incident description.
