Police Respond To Burglary Call, Find Home Set Ablaze

Police responding to a burglary call in Pittsburgh's Larimer neighborhood early Wednesday morning arrived to find the home fully engulfed in flames.

Neighbors called police after hearing glass breaking, pounding and banging inside a home along Orphan Street at about 1:45 p.m.

When police arrived, the home had been set ablaze.

"I talked to the arson inspectors briefly. They didn't have a dog to search for an accelerant. But they did say when you light a couch up, it's going to go pretty good," said Lt. Daniel Herrman, of the Pittsburgh Police Department.

Police said witnesses saw three women and two men fleeing the scene in a black or dark green sport utility vehicle.

The homeowner said the house was not occupied. A tenant had just moved out, the homeowner said.

The fire marshal is investigating the cause of the fire, which took crews 20 minutes to extinguish.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
