WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Five people were hurt Friday morning when a sport utility vehicle crashed into a building in Washington County.

The accident happened at about 3:30 a.m. along Jefferson Avenue in Washington, Pa.

Police said they believe the SUV was going 75 mph when it crashed into the former Coca-Cola plant. More than half the vehicle went through the wall, police said.

According to police, one of the victims yelled for the driver to slow down before the crash.

Three women and two men were flown by medical helicopters to Pittsburgh hospitals.

The fire chief told Channel 11 News that some of the victims were not wearing seat belts.

"Everybody was conscious even though all five were life-flighted to various hospitals in the Pittsburgh area," said Washington Fire Chief Linn Brookman. "Their injuries are from broken legs, abdominal injuries. I believe one girl has a broken back."

The cause of the crash is being investigated.
