Police Arrest Man After 38 Minute Car Chase

JEANNETTE, Pa. -- Three police officers were hurt and one man was arrested after a 38-minute-long high-speed chase through Westmoreland County.Police said the chase started in Jeannette at about 2 a.m. Friday. The suspect, Ralph Anderson, 34, is accused of trying to break into a car outside Frank O's Bar on Baughman Avenue.Police said the 38-minute chase involved six departments, including North Versailles, Irwin, North Huntingdon, Penn Hills, Jeannette, and state police."They initiated a traffic stop and from that point, the pursuit was on," said Jeannette Police Chief Jeff Stahl. "He fled at a high rate of speed. There's so many streets, different areas of the county that this car went through."The chase ended when Anderson crashed near a Kenny Ross dealership along Route 30 in North Huntingdon. He complained of back pain and was taken to a hospital.Police did not release the names and conditions of the three officers who were hurt. Two police cruisers were also damaged during the chase.Stahl said one officer had a neck injury after hitting a pole."Thank God he had his seat belt on," said Stahl. "The officer told me if he would not have had his seat belt on he probably would have went through the windshield."Police said Anderson is wanted in Virginia Beach for violating his parole and burglary charges.
