Victim Of Wilkinsburg Shooting Identified

Police continued to search Friday night for the man who opened fire inside a Wilkinsburg barber shop, killing one person, Friday afternoon.

The Allegheny County Medical Examiner identified the man shot to death as Lawrence Whitehead, 33, of Pittsburgh.

Witnesses said the gunman walked into Ezell's Barber Shop at the corner of Laketon and Montier streets, ordered everyone to get down, and started shooting.

"It appears the shooter just walked in, in broad daylight, and shot the victim in the head in front of four of five people at least," said Allegheny County Police Asst. Superintendent James Morton.

Witnesses said they were too afraid to run out the front door.

"We all rushed downstairs in the basement and I did not know exactly where I was at, it was pitch black," said Devon Jeffries.

Investigators said the motive for the killing is not robbery and they believe the gunman knew the victim.

"It appears they knew each other and he went directly after the victim and nothing was said. But robbery was not the motive because there was a large amount of money right out in the open there by the victim," Morton said.
