MARS: Dentist Office Encouraging Kids to Donate Halloween Candy to Troops

Posted: 3:19 pm EST November 6, 2009Updated: 11:28 am EST November 11, 2009

A brand new dentist office in Mars is teaching their young patients to practice good oral hygiene habits while understanding the importance of giving.

Mars Dental Specialists, LLC is asking for leftover Halloween candy so they can collect and distribute it to United States service men and women through a program called Treats 4 Our Troops.

The grassroots organization delivers candy to injured troops residing in Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. The candy is also sent to the men and women serving overseas. Any business or individual can participate in the program.

Dr. Jennifer Pacella and her employees at Mars Dental Specialists have already begun collecting the candy and are holding a contest to see who can bring in the largest amount.

Through the month of November, patients and community members alike are asked to bring in the candy and weigh it on a scale. Each person will receive $1 per pound of candy and they’ll be entered to win the final prize of a $100 gift certificate good at several local attractions.
