The Humane Society of Greene County has filed animal cruelty charges against a Greene County couple, according to Channel 11's news exchange partner The Herald Standard.

Seven horses were rescued from Stanley and Margaret Halsey's farm on Nov. 7.

The couple is accused of failing to provide adequate care for horses and cattle on their farm.

Channel 11 spoke with one of the owners as well as a humane officer last month.

"We have a bad situation. Horses have been neglected and haven't had water for at least 48 hours that I'm aware of," said humane officer Derek Foreman

"We water these horses twice a day, ask anybody. We haul water," said Margaret Halsey.

Humane officers told Channel 11 the animals appeared to be malnourished and very thirsty.

The horses will stay with a veterinarian for 30 days before they are placed in new homes.
