5 Days After Fall, South Side Woman, 88, Found On Floor

Pittsburgh police said an 88-year-old South Side woman's godson was a godsend.

Police said Florence Dziekonski fell out of bed Tuesday and couldn't get up until her godson found her Sunday when he came to take her grocery shopping.

Police said for five days, Dziekonski drank only water that she kept at her bedside.

She was taken to UPMC Mercy Hospital in good condition with injuries to her back and neck.

Police said the woman's godson heard banging inside the house when he arrived at about noon Sunday. He had to break a window to get into the home.

Police have referred the woman to the Allegheny County Area Agency on Aging because they said she lived in deplorable conditions.

Police told Channel 11 News that there were exposed electrical wires on the second floor and garbage everywhere. They said there was so much clutter in the home that they had to remove some of it to get to Dziekonski.
