SLIPPERY ROCK: Student Killed By Illness Honored At Basketball Memorial Tournament

Gamma Sigma Sigma of Slippery Rock University is hosting a memorial basketball tournament for a student killed by bacterial meningitis in October.

20-year-old Ben Swantner died on October 16th, 2009. Officials suspect the elementary education major contracted bacterial meningitis, which ultimately caused his death.

Friends and fellow students are working through their grief by remembering the young student with a memorial basketball tournament in his honor. The Ben Swantner Memorial Tournament will be held on Saturday, December 5th at the Aebersold Student Recreation Center at Slippery Rock University.

The tournament is open to the public and welcomes men’s, women’s and co-rec brackets. The cost is $20 per team with at least one SRU student or $25 per team otherwise. There is a maximum limit of five players per team and a minimum of three players per team.

The deadline to register is November 23. Late registrations will be accepted until December 1st with a $5 late fee. For more information contact sah4075@sru.edu
