Moon Township police were taken for a wild ride after pulling a local man over for speeding.

The Penn Hills man appeared in court on Tuesday after he waived his right to a preliminary hearing.

Phillip Andrews, 25, was pulled over for speeding on Brodhead Road, but police said that’s when the real chase started.

“He accelerated up to 70-miles-per-hour, on a road we call Snake Hill Road,” said Captain Greg Seamon.

Police later found out Andrews had stolen the car from his stepfather.

Moon Township police chased the Penn Hills man for about 20 minutes on Sunday, blowing through stop signs and continuing around many blind bends.

Along for the entire ride were Andrews’ girlfriend and her 5-year-old son.

“The girlfriend says she kept trying to get him to stop because she felt he was going to injure them or someone else,” said Seamon.

Investigators said Andrews pulled into the parking lot of the West hills Rehabilitation Center, where he drove the car over the curb, down the hillside and into a tree.

Seamon said Andrews then jumped out of the car and led police on a foot chase through the woods while his girlfriend and her son left the scene as well.

“We ended up finding them later walking down the street,” said Seamon.

But, finding Andrews was not an easy task. Findley Police had to step in and bring their tracking dog to the scene to apprehend the man.

According to Seamon, the dog was able to track Andrews, who had concealed himself under a pile of leaves in the woods.

Andrews was then taken into custody.

Andrews is charged with endangering the welfare of a child, reckless endangerment and fleeing and eluding police.
