Pierogi Cooking Believed To Be Behind Blaze At Day Care Center

A basement fire caused a scare at a day care center in Pittsburgh's South Side on Wednesday.

The fire broke out in the basement kitchen of the St. Vladimir's Church on 18th Street. The South Side Children's Center is housed in the upstairs of the building.

Everyone evacuated the building safely, authorities said. They said there were only three kids and two adults inside because all of the other kids were on a walking trip.

Firefighters believe the fire started from church members cooking pierogies earlier, but the cause is still under investigation.
