PITTSBURGH -- During the holiday season, Pittsburgh police said it is a good thing for shoppers to have “junk in the trunk.”In an effort to decrease the number of valuables stolen from the cars of consumers, police officials want all Pittsburgh shoppers to be aware of the dangers.Law enforcement officials said shoppers should lock possessions in the trunk of their cars.“They’re going to walk by your vehicle, glance in your vehicle and if they don’t see valuables in there, they’re going to move onto an easier target,” said Officer James Snyder.Police also said to park in well lit areas, don’t carry a large purse and always use a shoulder strap. Shoppers should always be aware of their surroundings. One of the most stolen items, according to police said are GPS units, and police said if stolen they can lead to bigger trouble.“If you program where you live in there and you also have a garage door opener in there as well, they’re in your home,” said Pittsburgh police official Diane Richards.
