Odor In Washington Co. Making Noses Bleed, People Sick

An odor is making noses bleed and people sick in a Washington County neighborhood.

“You come around the bend and make a left on Devil’s Den Road and you just smell that bad rotten sulfur smell,” said neighbor Jason Hollerich.

The Department of Environmental Protection said it’s a hazardous level of hydrogen sulfide that’s causing the problems in Hanover Township.

“It’s getting worse and worse, and nobody is doing anything about it,” said neighbor John Wagner.

The DEP has ordered the Hanover Township Sewer Authority to fix the problem by Friday.

“Sewage is just sitting in that system,” said Chief Jim Geho of Hanover Township.

“We are going to install a new pilot,” said Jack Rae, a township engineer.
