PITTSBURGH -- Local architecht Rob Pfaffmann wants to salvage the 48-year-old Mellon Arena and transform it into a community ice skating rink.

He presented his plan to the county sports and exhibition authority on Thursday.

His plan would include shops, entertainment and restaurants.

The Penguins want to develop the 28 acres of land for office space, shops, and condos.

Under their plan, the arena would be demolished and the land paved over and used for parking.
