Bold Bandits Break Into Blawnox Homes

Bold bandits are targeting homes in Blawnox and police said they do not care whether you’re home or not.

Blawnox Police Chief George Bucha said in his 34 years as chief, he has not seen a rash of burglaries like this as 911 calls poured in.

“They just kept coming, one after the other,” said Bucha.

According to police, the bandits hit six houses in Blawnox in a matter of hours.

One victim who wanted to remain anonymous said his wife noticed the TV in their home had been moved and then found their backdoor wide open.

The victim said the burglars stole iPods, electronics, a tennis bracelet and his children’s football which was autographed by members of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

“It’s not something you’d think would happen around here,” said the victim. “Always known it to be a quiet neighborhood.”

Police said four rifles were stolen from a home on North Avenue. They said they recovered one of the stolen rifles on the street a block away on Woodland Road.

A similar sting of break-ins happened in nearby Aspinwall last week involving several homes on the same block on the same night.

Local police are working with county detectives and think the crimes could be related.

Officials said they are warning people not to let their guard down.

“I’m definitely going to start locking the doors,” said resident Casey Welsby. “Didn’t do that, had them unlocked.”
