Pair Of Pit Bulls Shot By Police After Attacking Cat

Police shot two pit bulls, with a violent history, in the middle of a New Castle street Friday.

After the pair of pit bulls attacked a cat, New Castle police said they shot both dogs, one of which died.

“Two pit bull dogs had a cat and they were mauling the cat when the officer arrived,” said Chief Thomas Sansone. “He was witnessing the incident, tried to break up the dog from the cat.” When that didn’t work, Sansone said the officer had to draw his weapon and put one of the dogs down.

According to police the second dog was wounded and ran off, and the cat died due to the wounds it suffered.

“Pit bulls are aggressive to begin with and then they’re roaming around your neighborhood eventually something is going to happen,” said concerned neighbor Jamie Verone.

According to Verone, the cat and pit bulls involved in the incident were owned by the same person.

A local letter carrier called 911 during the dog attack.

The owner of the animals is listed as Charles Barnhart.
