Flags At Half Staff To Honor Local Soldier Killed In Action

Gov. Ed Rendell ordered United States and Pennsylvania flags on state facilities in the Capitol Complex and in Indiana County to be flown at half-staff on Saturday to honor an Indiana County soldier killed in action in Afghanistan.

Staff Sgt. Glen Stivison Jr. was killed on Oct. 15 in Kandahar province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked his vehicle.

"On behalf of all Pennsylvanians, we extend our deepest sympathy to the family and friends of Staff Sgt. Stivison," Rendell said. "To coincide with the date of his memorial service in Blairsville, we will lower the United States and state flags to show our respect for his loyal service and sacrifice for our country."

Stivison was a 1994 graduate of Blairsville High School and a combat engineer. He was in the service for 13 years .
