An Ambridge man was flown to UPMC Presbyterian after he was stabbed in the stomach with a cane knife.

Police charged his neighbor, Vernon Bridges, with attempted criminal homicide.

Investigators said Ron Book and his son were arguing about a dog Thursday afternoon when Bridges, their neighbor, came to check things out.

At that point, he and Book got into an argument and during that fight, police said Bridges struck Book with his cane knife.

Police said Book was yelling racial slurs.

The 18-inch blade went through the victim's stomach.

"It stuck right underneath his rib cage," said Joe Book, the victim's son. "I thought it was going to hit a vital because the kidneys are right there in the back."

Book was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
