Only On 11: Butler Dad Paddles Developmentally Disabled Daughter, 16

A Butler man admitted to paddling his developmentally challenged, blind daughter last week.

According to police, Richard Brown said his daughter ate three large candy bars without permission on Thanksgiving night.

Police said the next morning Brown questioned his 16-year-old developmentally delayed, blind daughter about the candy, but she denied eating the candy.

Brown said he then disciplined his daughter by not allowing the girl to eat breakfast or lunch, said police.

Police said when the girl sneaked a piece of pie, her father made her stand with her arms out to the side like a cross.

The criminal complaint said when she couldn’t hold the pose, her father hit her many times in the legs and butt with a wooden board.

Brown told Channel 11 news reporter Amy Marcinkiewicz he wrapped a piece of wood with yellow tape and hit the girl on her thigh.

“I might have gone out of line,” said Brown. But, Brown said he believes his loss of temper was not violent and that he loves his daughter.

He said the girl is suicidal and homicidal and a danger to the rest of his family. He said he gets help from the state and from many psychologists, but her behavior is bizarre and he needs help.

CYS took the teenager to live with her grandmother where she will stay.

Brown was charged with simple assault.
