Volunteer Firefighter Treated At Hospital After Fiery Georges Twp. Collapses

GEORGES TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- A volunteer firefighter has been treated for a leg injury he suffered while running out of a burning house that collapsed behind him in Fayette County.Firefighters from Collier Township, Smithfield, Fairchance and Hopwood all responded to the fire along Collier Road in Georges Township at about 2:30 a.m."We arrived upon seeing a home that they were remodeling. We found it fully engulfed. We fought the structure fire for about half an hour and then the structure completely collapsed," said Collier Township Fire Chief Jeff Cunningham.Nobody was inside the home when the fire started. The house was being remodeled and the cause of the blaze is being investigated by a state police fire marshal. The building has been declared a total loss.Fire officials said the firefighter was taken to Uniontown Hospital to be treated for a broken ankle. His name and condition have not been released.
