Police Charge 1 Of 3 Men In Hempfield Twp. Homeless Attack

State police have charged one of three men who allegedly beat a homeless man with poles and clubs as he slept in a tent in a wooded area of Westmoreland County.

Police in Greensburg said Benson Perry, 27, of Claridge, and two men police have yet to charge severely beat Paul Lance, 51, on Nov. 17.

Police said Perry has accused Lance of sexually assaulting a relative, a claim police say Lance denies and for which he has not been criminally charged.

Police said the men beat Lance while he camped behind a park in Hempfield Township, about 30 miles east of Greensburg. A preliminary hearing scheduled for Tuesday has been delayed indefinitely.
