Family And Friends Remember Teen Gunned Down One Year Ago

Friends and family gathered for a candlelight vigil Wednesday night to remember a local teen killed one year ago.

Laron Benton was a sophomore at Brashear high school when he was gunned down in Mount Oliver on his 16th birthday.

He was shot in the chest at the corner of Brownsville Road and Moore Avenue.

The victim’s mother, LaTonya Edwards, does not want her son to be forgotten.

“I just wish these kids would have some regard for life…he died on his birthday…stop killing each other,” said Edwards.

The slaying remains unsolved.

Police say they have no motive or witness.
