Westmoreland County School District Tackles Drug Problem

Parents and school leaders teamed up Monday night, to tackle a drug problem that's plaguing a local school district.

In 15 expulsion hearings held this school year in the Hempfield Area School District, every one has involved drugs.

In all, 15 students have been expelled.

School officials said in the high school, the drugs of choice are Suboxone and Adderall.

It's a trend that has parents concerned.

"I think they should take it very seriously and crack down on these children immediately. No second chances, they need to take care of it right away," said Joyce Maybach.

Monday's meeting was a planning session.

The board will meet again in three weeks.
