Communities Brace Themselves For Second Round Of Snow

Days after a debilitating snow storm struck Pittsburgh, local communities are bracing for a second round of snow on Tuesday.

Counties to the east of Pittsburgh, like Westmoreland County, are expecting up to a foot of snow from the storm.In Hempfield Township, snow began to lightly fall around 11 a.m., and roads were completely passable.Westmoreland County officials said the Army National Guard base is on alert with Humvees prepared to clean roads if conditions get bad enough.Officials said enough preparations have been made that they don’t expect widespread problems once the heavy snow hits.North of Pittsburgh, officials said a state of emergency is still in effect.Cranberry Township officials said most roads are clear and crews are ready for the snow to come on Tuesday.Residents north of the city said the problem is the heavy, icy debris left behind by the plow trucks. Throwing salt is not enough to combat the refuse.Fire and Police officials in Cranberry Township asked residents to dig out any fire hydrants in the area in case of an emergency.
