Steelers' Roethlisberger Hires High-Powered Attorney
At a news conference on Monday, Milledgeville Police Chief Woodrow Blue said they're in the process of interviewing eight witnesses, one of them Roethlisberger."We've been talking with (Roethlisberger's) attorney and we plan to interview eight people and Ben Roethlisberger within two or three days," said Blue."The investigation is ongoing. It would be premature to make any announcement at this time," said Fred Bright, district attorney for the Ocmulgee Judicial Circuit. "When the facts are in and a decision is made, we will let you know."Roethlisberger has hired Atlanta-based defense lawyer Ed Garland. Garland previously represented rapper T.I. on a federal weapons charge and star Baltimore Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis in a murder case. More serious charges against Lewis were dropped and he pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor obstruction of justice charge."The facts show that there was no criminal activity. No sexual assault occurred," Garland said in a statement Monday. "Ben is completely innocent of any crime."Garland said Roethlisberger is cooperating and that the investigation should end without a criminal charge.Roethlisberger is currently being sued in civil court by Andrea McNulty, who claims the quarterback raped her in 2008 at a Lake Tahoe hotel. The Steelers star denies those allegations and has asked for counter-damages.High profile sports lawyer Bob Del Greco has represented several Steelers players over the years; most recently kicker Jeff Reed.Channel 11 asked Del Greco what this new allegation means for Roethlisberger's future."He is now fighting sexual assault allegations on two coasts, on two fronts. That makes for a disturbing off season I would think," Del Greco said.
