PITTSBURGH -- Pittsburgh police arrested 16 people for obstructing roads during a downtown rally by a union vying to represent the city's hotel and hospitality workers. The National Labor Relations Board has ruled that Workers United represents the region's 1,800 workers at hotels, restaurants and sports venues. But Unite Here Local 57 has appealed that decision and more than 100 workers allied with that group rallied Thursday afternoon near the David L. Lawrence Convention Center.Police spokeswoman Diane Richard said 10 workers and six organizers who blocked 10th Street about 5 p.m. were arrested and issued citations for obstructing a roadway. One of the protesters gave a statement to reporters while being handcuffed."Some people have to work two and even three jobs to make ends meet and take care of their families. They're out here looking for a fair shake. We're not here looking for handouts. We're looking out for what we believe is right."Rallies like the one in Pittsburgh were planned in 15 other cities across North America, organizers said.
