PITTSBURGH -- Prosecutors said a gun and eyewitnesses link a 22-year-old suburban Pittsburgh man to the shooting deaths of his friend, his cousin and his mother within weeks of one another two years ago.
Allegheny County prosecutors said they'll seek a death sentence if a jury returns a first-degree murder conviction for Carl Scott, of Duquesne, in any of the three deaths during the summer of 2002.Scott's friend Andre McBryde, 21, was shot to death in his suburban Pittsburgh apartment on April 5, 2002.A month later, Scott's cousin Tyrone Wells, 22, was shot four times in his Wilkinsburg apartment -- where police said Scott was hiding. Then, in May 2002, prosecutors said Scott shot his mother, Cynthia Scott, 42, who was cooperating with police.Defense attorney Warner Mariani said no one saw the actual shootings, and though prosecutors said the gun was used in all the shootings, they haven't linked the gun to Scott.
