Greenpeace Protesters Taken Into Custody
Six People Climbed Smokestack Wednesday

GREENE COUNTY, Pa. -- Greenpeace activists were arrested overnight after allegedly breaching security and climbing a smokestack in Greene County.


The six protesters were arraigned on several charges including criminal trespass, reckless endangerment and criminal mischief.Wednesday morning, the group climbed a 750-foot smokestack at Hatfield's Ferry Power Station in Cumberland Township to protest President Bush's energy policy.Police said the group breached security by cutting through a barbed-wire fence.We wanted to give you perspective of just how high the protesters were.After breaking into the power station, the protesters proceeded to climb 750-feet into the air by using a ladder on the tower. Compare that to the US Steel Building in downtown Pittsburgh that is roughly 820-feet from top to bottom.
