Protesters Climb 750-Foot Smokestack

PITTSBURGH -- Six Greenpeace activists could face even more severe charges after breaching security Wednesday at a Greene County power station.The protesters were told they could face five years in prison and a $250,000 fine for conspiracy.They could also face 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine for destruction of an energy facility.U.S. attorney Mary Beth Buchanan said, "It is serious because of the safety of individuals, the safety of workers."The six were arrested after climbing this smokestack at Hatfield's Ferry Power Station in protest of President George W. Bush's energy plan. All six remain in jail.
