Pittsburgh Mayor Bob O'Connor has named the city's new police chief.

Retired police Cmdr. Dom Costa got the call from the Mayor Friday.

Costa had been considered the front-runner.

He is currently the public safety director in Penn Hills.

He retired after being shot and injured during a standoff in Homewood in 2002.

The bullet from that shooting is still lodged in Costa's head.

He served 25 years on the force before retiring.
