7 people rescued from house fire in Plum

PLUM, Pa. — Emergency crews rescued seven people, including several children, early Saturday morning during a house fire in Plum.

Police said that when officers arrived shortly after 5:30 a.m. on Cherrywood Drive, they saw heavy smoke coming from the house, but were unable to get in through a front door.

Two adults and five children, ages 1 to 11, were rescued when officers and members of the Plum Fire Department entered a second floor window, according to police.

Two of the children and two Plum police officers were taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation, police said.

Firefighters extinguished the fire and the Allegheny County Fire Marshal was contacted.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
