CONNELLSVILLE, Pa. -- A local soldier is being hailed as a hero.Spc. Brian Sheetz, a member of the Army National Guard 28th Division, is a Connellsville native.

According to the Herald Standard Newspaper, a few grenades were tossed into the tank Sheetz and his unit were riding in during a patrol mission in Iraq.Sheetz tossed the grenade out before it exploded.He sustained injuries to his hands and face after one of three tossed grenades exploded.He has returned to regular duty.Sheetz is a husband and a father of two.
