The fire that started early Thursday morning at The Finishing Touch carpet store in Monongahela was brought under control.

Firefighters from seven departments battled the blaze on West Main Street.

All residents from the apartments above the building were evacuated.

Witnesses believed lightning caused the fire and reported large flames and intense heat.

"The fire, it was just so hot, you could smell it, you know what I mean? And I was hanging right there and that’s when the fire truck there pulled up, and they put the ladder and said, 'Hold on, don't jump,' and I was gonna jump,” one resident said.

The store was badly gutted from the fire and the roof caved in.

Two firefighters were injured in the blaze. One for an injured shoulder; another for hear exhaustion.

Both were treated and released.

There is no word on their names.
