PITTSBURGH — As the Pittsburgh Penguins and San Jose Sharks prepare to face off in the Stanley Cup Final, Allegheny County and Santa Clara County in California have placed a friendly wager on the series.

The wager was announced by Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald and Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors President Dave Cortese.

Both counties will collect donations for the Boys & Girls Clubs in their areas. The donations will be delivered at the end of the Penguins-Sharks series by the bettors, who will wear the jersey of the winning team.

Donations of new and gently used sports equipment will be accepted at the Allegheny County Courthouse's Information Center throughout the series, and will benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Western Pennsylvania. The Information Center is located in the Courthouse Courtyard, off the Forbes Avenue archway.

“In this region, we not only wear black and gold, we bleed it,” Fitzgerald said in a release. “We are a sports town, and so it's only fitting that the championship series will bring needed sports equipment to youth in both Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, and San Jose, Santa Clara County. I'll enjoy shipping another Penguins jersey to a colleague and think that Supervisor Cortese is going to look good in black and gold.”

But Cortese is confident that black and gold isn’t in his future.

“This is a bet I'm prepared to make because I know that I will be wearing teal when the series is over,” he said in the release.
