Body of East Hills man found in Mon River in Pittsburgh's South Side

PITTSBURGH — The body of an East Hills man was found Thursday morning in the Monongahela River, according to the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Emergency crews were called shortly before 8 a.m. to the area of the Fort Pitt Bridge in the South Side.

According to police, a vessel along the river issued a distress signal about 4 a.m., but River Rescue didn’t find anything. About four hours later, a passerby on the Three Rivers Heritage Trail reported seeing the body.

The medical examiner’s office identified the body as that of 53-year-old Elmer Rodgers. Investigators said it is unclear how he died and how he ended up in the river.
