Brain cancer returns for child of dad who tattooed matching scar on his head

HUTCHINSON, KANSAS — We first met Gabe Marshall and his dad Josh back in June, after

to match his son’s scar from a brain cancer surgery.

Now, less than six months later, Gabe's brain tumor is back.

"It's a roller coaster," Josh Marshall told

. "You go from feeling perfectly fine and normal, and then just the fears of what's going to happen. The not knowing is what really hurts."

Doctors told the family that the tumor is inoperable.

"Pretty much we were told that the tumor is becoming more active," Josh said.

For Gabe, the way to move forward is simple.

"Just being strong. Don't try to whine through it, and just be strong," he said.  "It's very sad, and it hurts me to hear that there are spots of the tumor that are growing in my brain. Then we are going to have to start all over again and go through all the hard things that happened. It's really hard."

"He is my superhero," Josh said of his son. "He has (shown) me what life really is about and how to cherish the most out of everything."
