US Airways To Cut Local Jobs

Gate Agents Replaced With Automated Ticket Readers

A labor leader reportedly said 200 gate agents will be laid off by September.

That's when the airline will install automated ticket readers at airport gates.

Most of the cuts will come in Pittsburgh. Agents will also be laid off in Philadelphia and Charlotte, N.C.

The new automated system is designed to lower costs of the struggling airline.
