Businesses expecting boost in sales after Pens win

PITTSBURGH — Local businesses, hotels and restaurants are preparing for an expected boost in sales after the Pittsburgh Penguins were named the Eastern Conference Champions Thursday.

Retail stores were already seeing a spark in business Friday morning, and expect to see it continue over the weekend before Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals.

"This weekend is going to be off the charts. we're really going to do some big business and we're prepared for it," said Jim Coen, owner of Yinzers.

The Visit Pittsburgh tourism office has re-named the city “Pensburgh.”

Visit Pittsburgh is estimating that each game will bring in profits of $4.1 to $4.3 million to local businesses.

"Its big money for the city but even more than that it's the exposure of the city, its exposure we couldn't purchase, couldn't buy," said Jason Fulvi, Visit Pittsburgh executive director.

Tickets for Monday’s game range from $255 to $1,600.
