Chase suspect crashes into pole, building

One person is in custody after a high-speed police chase Saturday in Springdale.

Officials said 19-year-old Devan Demetri Chapman is facing felony charges of fleeing and eluding police, recklessly endangering another person, receiving stolen property and numerous traffic violations.

Police said the chase started when they saw a person driving erratically on State Route 28 and tried to pull the driver over. Chapman reached speeds of more than 100 mph, zig-zagging through streets and traffic.

Chapman crashed into a utility pole during the chase, police said. He continued driving and struck the porch of an apartment building. He then jumped out of the car and tried to run away before police caught up with him.

Witnesses said it was one of the wildest things they'd ever seen. The car nearly crashed into Hannah Sellers bedroom.

"I kind of ran out of the bedroom because I just didn't know where it was going to come from, what part he hit," Hannah Sellers said.

Another witness said

Chapman, of New Kensington, was transported to the Allegheny County Jail. There were no reported injuries.
