Pittsburgh police confirmed that they've increased patrols in the area. The Pittsburgh Housing Authority said it also improved area lighting and hopes to soon upgrade fencing after it gets approval from the Housing and Urban Development Department in Washington, D.C.

Residents demanded specifics from public safety officials and city leaders at a meeting Thursday night, and for changes to what's already in place.

“I cannot believe that the Housing Authority would set a block of concrete, an ineffective piece of concrete, on this ground and call it security,” community activist Adrienne Young said.
