Club installs wheelchair ramp at Derry Township home for teen with spina bifida

DERRY TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A Derry Township teenager with spina bifida is getting some much needed help this weekend, thanks to a donation from a local club.

Gregory Amond, 16, has been unable to walk after having knee surgery in 2010. Since then, he’s had to slide down a set of steps and then use a tarp to get out of his home. Soon, that won’t be the case.

The White Oak Rotary Club on Friday started installing a wheelchair ramp for Amond. Crews dug out the area for the ramp Friday and plan to pour concrete Saturday.

Amond said the freedom will change his life.

“I'm going to be able to get out of the house, do things on my own and possibly go to college and have a career,” he said.
