Couple keeps pregnancy secret for 9 months to surprise grandma

SALT LAKE CITY, Ut. — A couple in Utah wanted to do something different when they found out they were expecting their third child. Could they keep it a secret for nine months?

Tannin Pease doubted that it was possible to hide their upcoming child from friends and family, but his wife Katie convinced him that they could pull it off.

The first 4-5 months were easy.  After that, the couple says Katie's stomach started getting curious looks from people but most were too polite to ask.  If they did, the couple would tell them and swear them to secrecy.

A few friends and family did figure out what they were up to, but mostly the surprise stayed a secret.  Aside from the obvious tricks of dressing Katie in baggy clothes, they also had to limit their time with family.  That meant missing a few family gatherings, but in the end it paid off.

Finally, the day before the birth, Tannin invited his mom over for a visit.  When she walked into the house and saw Katie, there was no more hiding!  Mother-in-law Carolynn Pease gingerly touched Katie's baby bump with a complete loss for words.

The biggest surprise came when they told her that the baby was coming the next day-- and Carolynn's look of surprise changes to complete shock!.

Family and friends that were farther away were still in the dark, but Tannin had posted on Facebook the week before that they'd have a big announcement coming.  Starting a live video stream from the delivery room, Tannin and Katie finally confirmed the arrival of their third child.

Baby Saul was born Feb. 20.  He weighed in at 7 pounds 7 ounces and everyone is doing well.
