Couple says they could lose thousands of dollars after contracting company does not finish work

PITTSBURGH — A couple says they could be out thousands of dollars after finding discrepancies in a contract with a company they say never came back to finish the work.

Marsha Tallant and her husband told Channel 11’s Catherine Varnum they didn’t realized the discrepancies in the contract they signed with RJ Hardscaping and Landscaping until after the company didn’t come back to finish the work it started.

“It doesn't have his PA license number on here, so it's also not right,” said Marsha Tallant.

The Tallants hired and paid the company more than $7,500 to put in a wall and stairs along the side of their home.

“We took a loan to have it done. We'll be paying on (it) for five years, with no wall,” said Marsha Tallant.

Channel 11 found that the company has an F rating on BBB’s website and that two different civil actions have been filed – one just this week asking for more than $3,000.

Varnum went to the address listed for the company. Two people told her the company was no longer there and declined to answer any of her questions.

It was also found that the company’s phone numbers have been disconnected and its website is no longer active.

“I don't think they'll ever come back and finish the work. I don't think I'll ever get my money back,” said Marsha Tallant, whose yard was left with a hole and a large amount of dirt around it.

Channel 11 reached out through social media and by phone to one person associated with the company, but did not receive a response back.

“We just don't want him to be able to do this to other people,” said Marsha Tallant.

The Tallants told Channel 11 that they have filed a criminal complaint.
