PITTSBURGH — The Pennsylvania Turnpike has lifted an 86-mile westbound detour after lanes were closed overnight by a vehicle fire and a related crash closed them overnight.
The lane restrictions began after the vehicle fire was reported about 9:45 p.m. Monday at mile marker 100. But the situation got worse after a turnpike service truck responded to the scene, only to be hit by a tractor-trailer which caught fire shortly after 10:30 p.m.
That prompted officials to close the westbound turnpike between Somerset, at mile marker 110, and Donegal, and mile marker 91. By 2 a.m., the closure was expanded between Breezewood, at mile marker 161, and New Stanton, at mile marker 75.
Crews cleared the debris and reopened the westbound lanes about 9:45 a.m. Tuesday.
