Driver getting gas kidnapped at gunpoint, forced to withdraw cash at ATM

EAST PITTSBURGH, Pa. — Authorities are searching for an armed man who kidnapped a driver filling up his car at an East Pittsburgh gas station Friday morning and then forced the driver to withdraw cash from an ATM.

"Right now, I got my eyes everywhere. I'm a former Army ranger, so I'm trying to be as vigilant as I can,” Sheldon Stoudemire told Channel 11 News.

Stoudemire was shocked to hear that a driver getting gas at the East Pittsburgh Sunoco early Friday morning was kidnapped at gunpoint and forced into a car.%

Police said the kidnapper then drove the victim four miles down Route 30 and into Wilkinsburg, where he ordered the victim to withdraw money at an ATM. The victim eventually managed to escape unharmed.

“I think we're living in a time now that everybody should be bearing their arms,” Stoudemire, a conceal and carry permit holder, said.

Authorities said they have no suspects at this time. However, police are looking for a white Kia Shortage and advising people to pay extra attention to their surroundings when filling up at a gas station.

"Criminals know that, so they prey on people who are not paying attention,” Stoudemire said.
